We specialize in providing old-fashioned service, attention to detail and traditional, conservative grading using ABAA standards and terms.  We ship daily or, at most, each second day.  Any required shipping adjustments will be submitted to you, for approval, immediately.  We use Ahearn's definition of the term "First Edition", to paraphrase, 'To the serious collector or dealer it is first trade edition, and its jacket, as the first copy came off the press'.  Any exceptions to this are always noted.  60 Catalogs on-line, satisfaction assured.  Thank you.

Shipping:

How do you ship your books?

Our basic domestic shipping option is USPS Media Mail, formerly called book rate. We ship hundreds of books a year this way and have found the service reliable. We have never had a book lost or damaged when shipped by the US Postal Service.

How long will it take to get my book shipped by media mail?

The Postal Service estimates 7 to 12 business days. We find that books mailed to addresses in the Western United States average 4 to 6 business days, and to the East Coast in 7 to 10. However, in rare cases it will take longer.

What are my options if I need faster shipping?

Domestic Flat Rate Priority envelope shipping is available for a small additional charge. But, please note that your item must be able to fit inside a Flat Rate Envelope. Additionally, we may not be able to do as much protective packing of the book as is our norm.

What if the book is too large for a Flat Rate envelope?

There is Flat Rate box shipping available, these boxes are large enough to accommodate 2 telephone book size items. The size increase results in an additional charge.

How do you ship International orders?

We currently use Flat Rate Priority International envelopes where they will work for a given item. There is a 4-pound limit on this option. Once again, the item must fit in the envelope. The US Postal Service theoretically offers this service worldwide and estimates 10 to 15 business days for delivery. However, the items must pass through Customs and the final delivery is completed by the country of destination, which can notably take longer than the USPS estimated time. We regularly ship to Israel, South Korea, Australia, and Western Europe with excellent results.

How do you package the books for shipping?

The books are wrapped in layers of kraft paper. Then if using a padded mailer envelope, they are given cardboard stiffeners inside their envelope and additional protective packing if necessary. We use new boxes for some of our shipping with secure and abundant packing.

Do you provide insurance and delivery confirmation?

Automatically at our expense for all books priced over $75.00.

I have a question about the size of an item, the speed, and/or the cost of shipping it.

Please feel free to contact us by email or telephone. (Click on Contact Us.) We will respond asap.

What Are Bundled Books?

Where an individual item's value is too low to market as a single piece, we'll often add it to an existing listing making a group of related items. These are generally shipped at our one book price. Examples currently on the shelf include a group of C. S. Lewis material, a Country Cooking (Farm Journal) group, and a group of 3 books about Dalmatian dogs. We have hundreds of these groups on the shelves. We find that our clients appreciate the opportunity to acquire a fuller spectrum of writing on a given subject with a huge savings in shipping costs.

Describing the Condition of Books

How do you grade your books?

Strictly and in tremendous detail, using the traditional time-tested ABAA standards. We feel that internet buyers should be provided as much information as possible since they are purchasing an item sight unseen. We cover this subject in our booklet, Internet Bookselling, our catalog #5700.
