NY "Scribners" 1967 BCE/BOMC(false first) Hardcover Good - No Jacket Book
Book is an excellent candidate for our new "false first" catalog which will, by and by, include LOTS of variations and thorough descriptions of just how misleading copyright pages and other indicators can be. While the books are not intended for sale, and are intended as teaching tools, thay are available at the listed, intentionally excessive prices. The copyright has perfect Scribners "A" and date and the headband inside the books spine top is in place, indicating better than the cheapest bindery, and the book has, in addition, a non-bookclubby quality of text and weight. However, the damning indicator is the presence of an unmissable black square debossing mark, lower back corner. It's therefore surely a book club, likely printed form unaltered first edition plates tendered to the book club by Scribners as they often did...It was probably sold with an unpriced jacket, which would have been an almost certain indicator of book club status, at least for main stream publishers, but of course, the jacket is not present. Just another case where the publishers information is wrong and the debossing mark is the determining feature. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. We assure the buyer that books listed by Brass Dolphin are so described, and graded, using the strict, traditional standards. *
