Willingham, George Truth Brought To Light and Discovered By Time Richard Cotes Presume 1st Full-Leather Fair+ No Jacket Book Book measures 7 1/2 x 5 7/8 inches. Done in leather, ribbed spine, some restoration is evident. I am unable to locate a Wing or other listing to which to compare it but research continues. Balance of title and printer information, "Or A Discourse and Historicall Narration of the first XIIII yeares of King James Reigne." "London printed for Richard Cotes and are to be Sold By Michaell Sparke at the Blew Bible(sic) in Green 1651 Arbor John Drosehout Sculp. Lon." Collation is largely quarto. The interior commmences with exotic marbled pastedown/endsheet (xlibris plate PD), including an odd, homely, reinforcing of the hinge. Verso 1st endsheet is blank and a blank leaf (likely both restorer work) follow. Some erased pencil is seen here. Next follows what I take to be the original text, a blank, verso has the "title explained" next title page verso blank, facing page blank verso fine illustration/frontis. of Overbury. Next page a statement that this is a narrative history verso blank, this is followed by a letter to the reader and TOC consiting of 5 leaves. Text then runs from page 1 to 192 with pagination gap 81 thru 92, text reads as all present, seems to be pure misnumbering. This is followed by 2 leaves beginning the "Abstract" which then numbers pages 1 thru 72. Then comes a leaf re "A True Relation" with pages numbering 1 thru 18. This concludes the printed text of the material I am certain is original. The final pages are finished as the first. Some text edge chipping is in evidence, and the book's second gutter is gappy. Edge browning and foxing with the odd text stain are present, but all is legible and I see no major issues. Leaf 163/164 has been omitted with the carry thru from 162 to 165 looking correct. The spine has been reworked and, I think, the original speckled leather boards reattatched. Spine is ribbed with giltwork and handsome red label , though it does have some scratch and minor gouge. The gilt edging of the boards is much worn away and the board edges and tips are worn thru. A foto will accompany this listing shortly. Price:
