We specialize in providing old-fashioned service, attention to detail and traditional, conservative grading using ABAA standards and terms.  We ship daily or, at most, each second day.  Any required shipping adjustments will be submitted to you, for approval, immediately.  We use Ahearn's definition of the term "First Edition", to paraphrase, 'To the serious collector or dealer it is first trade edition, and its jacket, as the first copy came off the press'.  Any exceptions to this are always noted.  60 Catalogs on-line, satisfaction assured.  Thank you.

1 May, Thomas The History Of The Parliament of England
London Robert Wilks 1812 2nd Edition Full-Leather Fair+ No Jacket Book
The book measures 11 3/8 x 9 1/4. I feel strongly that no restoration has occurred here. Full leather covers have some scarring, gilt stamped edging of boards. The spine has raised bands, red label, heavily tooled in gilt with some abrasion. The spines top 2" is lost, this is the books sole major structural issue though it has an assortment of less damning flaws. Specifically, lots of tip bumping and abrasion, major. The hinge exteriors have abrasion as well. Ex libris plate first pastedown, first endsheet has flecks and xlib. plate shadow. Frontis. of May in place (heavily foxed, esp.verso) The preface and TOC paginated in roman numerals, all present. Text, including appendix, numbers 337 pages. The medium brown pastedowns and first and last endsheets are decent, the adjacent blank sheets quite foxed in places. The above said, the hinging seems quite sound and the text overall supple and clear. Highly readable. Collated in quarto primarily. A photo showing the spine issue will be made to accompany the listing. My sentiment is that reworking the upper spine would be straightforward. Since receiving it, the book has been store in an air tight acid free sleeve.
