1 Montagu, Ralph Two Letters from Mr. Montagu to the Ld Treasurer
London Jonathan Edwin at the Three Roses in Ludgate-Street 1679 First Edition Hardcover Very Good- No Jacket Book
This is a laying-in of two letters to the Lord Treasurer by Montagu in hardcover. From the balance of the title page, "One of the 11th, the other of the 18th of Jan 1678." Collation is quarto, though size, of course, is smaller. The fifteen pages of text are laid with multiple beautiful parchment beige endsheets into boards. The boards are three-quarter bound in navy leather with gilt embellishments (spine and diagonal tips) with marbled paper for the balance and the endsheets. The item seems to be correct for wing number M2468. This information, plus Montagu's name and the book's institutional placements, are pencilled on the second, replaced endsheet. The text of the items themselves are wonderfully legible and minimally foxed and stained. I feel reasonably confident that the original text's edges are natural and not cropped due to their aged appearance. The title page has the only notable issues of the piece, those being a "9" penned at the title's top and a marked discoloration at its edges. I find the text surprisingly supple and bright. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Books listed by Brass Dolphin are so described, and graded, using the strict, traditional standards. For this reason, we have virtually zero returns.*
