Trevanian The Eiger Sanction NY Crown 1972 1st Edition US No Additional Printings Hardcover Good - Very Good- Book A few words are in order about what constitutes a "First Edition." We use Ahearn's definition. To paraphpase, " To a serious collector or dealer only the books initial trade appearance, not its later printings, book clubbings, reprints, regardless of how the publisher labels it, is the 'First Edition'." If our business has a later printing of the '1st' we call it a later printing, thinking it does not pass the test. Only the 1st printing of the first edition meets the requirement. It is worth noting, e.g. that Little, Brown leaves its first edition statement on its book "The Lovely Bones" thru its first 14 number removals, at least. Further, roughly 30% of the book clubs out there are done from uncorrected FE plates and call themselves 1sts (see Lovely Bones BCE). Since systems of identification vary we will specify that in 1972 Crown used no designation on its firsts, that is the case here and since the item comes in a priced jacket we are confident of its actual FE status. Crown notes later printiings in the copyright data. Unlike some houses the later printings of the jacket are indicated on the jacket by Crown as well. I find no points of issue for the first in my notes and this copy has no debossing mark. . . .While this book is not in what I consider collectable condition, the scarce jacket is in unusually nice shape and is the primary reason the item is being offered for sale. The book has 3 notable flaws. Cocking is present (spine slant), a previous owners name is penned bottom 1st endsheet, and there is bumping in the field of the back board. This said, the text is unmarked, if a bit thumbed, binding sound, no gapping. Orange boards black letters. I suspect the jacket may have been stored light free as its hot pink has minimal spine fading, almost none, orange and white lettering. It has edgewear, the odd short tear and has been placed in a new mylar wrapper. In looking at its inside a small tape mending is present and a bit of edge darkening. It is priced at $6.95 and no later printings are noted. As you may know, pink, red and purple inks are prone to fast sun/light fade. It will be stored air tight and light free. Foto will follow soon and jacket should look terrific. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Books listed by Brass Dolphin are so described, and graded, using the strict, traditional standards. For this reason, we have virtually zero returns.* Price:
